Guilty

Well, my time has come. I've been summoned. I got the letter in the mail the other day. Come July 11th I will be fulfilling my civic responsibility and serving on jury duty. I use to think it would be kind of cool or fun. I've heard of people getting interesting cases and thought I might enjoy that. That was until I got that letter and really thought it through. I just knew what it was when I read the return address and it said Dakota county juror something or other.

Not only is it going to be tricky lining up childcare for the 2 weeks I would potentially have to serve for but if I am on a case, I would have to decide someones guilt and punishment. I don't know that I want that responsibility. I am fine doing it more my own children, but for someone else? What if the other jurors and I don't agree or have different morals and beliefs? Ugh. And then like i said the issue of the kids. I know I may get dismissed or only have a short trial, but I have to be prepared for 2 weeks. My dad works in the summer, so he can't really watch them more than the 2 or 3 days a week that he already does. What do full time stay at home moms that don't have daycare do? Maybe I'll get dismissed if I say that. Oh, and let's not forget my job at the hospital. They just did our schedule and we are already super short staffed and really busy. I know your employer has to give you time off, but I feel bad.

Anyone have any experience with this? Am I overreacting? Anyone willing to watch the kids a day or even a few hours?

I know that they will pay for your childcare during the jury duty, so maybe you could pay one of our friends to do it. I would call the number on the summons (there must be one for if you have questions) and ask them what people do.

I think my mom got out of it a long time ago because she was nursing one of us. Not sure if you are nursing Simon or not, but it's worth a shot :)

I just read that about childcare- just don't know that I want to leave my kids 5 days in a row for 2 weeks. I have a hard enough time going to work 2 or 3 days. Although it might only be a few hours or a few days

Elise, I just stopped nursing him. Wish I would have waited!
