First we went to the Foshay Tower. It is now the W hotel. With Todd's interests in architecture and history, this is a place he has always wanted to go. I got a free pass at the library (they have several for different museums). I think normally this is $8 a person. We read some interesting things about the building- it was built in the late 1920s to look like the Washington Monument, saw some pictures, and watched a short video about the changes over the years. Then, we went up to the 32nd floor which is the observation deck. I didn't really know or think about the fact that it was outside. So, it was rather chilly and windy, but still very cool to see the city at night. I think we'll try to go back in the summer. Obviously this building isn't nearly as tall as the Sears Tower or even many other buildings downtown anymore, but it was still pretty interesting.
Then I gave Todd the choice of restaurants- Manny's steakhouse or The Melting Pot. It was a tough one because he has always really wanted to try both. We are going out with some friends of his from work in a couple weeks and are going to a nice steak place then, so he decided on Melting Pot because he also knew I had been there earlier this summer with some friends and thought it was really good. And it was! It was perfect too because we shared a platter of meat and seafood.
Here are some pictures of our great night out.
